It was a 6-day trip in the winter of 2026. The end of February is the perfect time to take a city trip in Athens, because the weather is pleasant and there are not so many tourists in the city as in the summer time. I traveled by airplain to Athens and the accommodations were in Glyfada (5 nights), a seafront suburb of the city. On this trip I visited the main tourist attractions, I climbed up to the top of some hills to see the city from above and I got to know the modern architecture of the Greek capital.
21.02.2026 – Arrive to Glyfada
On this day I had only time to arrive to Glyfada, one of the sea coast districts of Athens.

22.02.2026 – Ancient Times
Focus on the ancient heritage of Athens. In the historic centre of the city you can find probably on each corner an ancient ruin. First I recommend the Acropolis Museum (photo below), because you can get to know the history of the city and also the magnificent new building designed by Bernard Tschumi. After that you can walk around the hills of the Acropolis (one of the best views is from the Philopappos Monument – photo above), the Church of St. Demetrios Loumbardiaris is a nice sacral space. In February you do not have to book your Acropolis ticket before the arrival, and there are not so many tourist in this time. The ruins are beautiful, and also the view to the city. Walk down near the Roman Forum and the Agora to the Abyssinia- and Monastiraki Square and feel how the centuries meet each other.

23.02.2026 – Around the Centre
As an architect it is worth to get to know some other districts of the cities, which are not direct in the centre. Start the day at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) designed by Renzo Piano: the building and the park on the big roof are amazing. On this day I saw some nice residential buildings from the 60’s and 70’s (photo). The Technopolis was unfortunately closed, when I was there, and it is only worth to see, if it open (check the opening hours before the visit). I also visited the Omonia Square, but I do not recommend it, because it is not the most beautiful part of this city. What i can recommend is the Neapoli district, which is a special part of the city because of the steep street.

24.02.2026 – Centre and Piraeus
This day you have the chance to see all those things, which you did not have time in the previous days: Panathenaic Stadium, National Garden, Zappeion Hall, Parliament and the Syntagma Square. I also recommend the Kallimármaro and Plaka Districts, the Benizelos Mansion (photo). In the afternoon you can go by the train from Monastiraki Station to Piraeus, which is one of the biggest seaports of Europe, and here is all about the sea.

25.02.2026 – Around Athens
Rent a car and get to know the countyside around Athens. In Rafina you can find a tiny, nice chapel with view to the sea and the islands around, and this town is also famous of the many summer houses and there are so many interesting forms and colours, which you should see. Vravron is a place with a famous ancient temple (I could see only the museum, because the ruins were closed because of a flood. Porto Rafti is a small town with a beautiful harbour and many good restaurants. In the way to Sounion you can take a break in Thorikos at a very authentical ancient theater (the site is not hyped, yet, but it is a great place). You should see Sounion in the sunset (of relatively late at the afternoon), because of the lights. From the ancient Posseidon Temple there is a wonderful view to the islands around. The end of the day you can stop at the Vouliagmeni thermal lake (take time to try this natural beauty).

26.02.2026 – Back to Home
Only fly back to home.
