Burgundy 1

It was 3-day trip with 4 people in the spring of 2016. It is worth to travel to Burgundy in the late spring or early autumn, because the weather is good: the mornings are cool, but in the day it can be over 20°C. We traveled by train and we rented a car there. The accommodation was in Mâcon (1 nights) and in Beaune (1 nights). This part of Bugundy is famous from the red wine: Pinot Noir.

12.05.2017 – From Dijon to Mâcon

The tour starts early in the morning at the Main Station of Zurich. You have to change the train in Basel and after that without stop go to Dijon [4 hours]. Rent a car there and drive to the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The village is famous of its red wine. Than go further to Chalon-sur-Saône, which is a bigger town and take a lunch break. The last stop is Mâcon, where you can find a lot of possibilities to have dinner and your accommodation is also here.

13.05.2017 – Wines and palaces

After breakfast drive to the once biggest monastery of Europe, to Cluny. The Monastery was almost demolished under the French revolution, but it is really worth to visit this monument. Go further to Cormatin, where you can find a beautiful renaissance castle. After that visit Tournus, where the romanesque church has a very touching atmosphere. It is also worth to visit the castle La Rochepot, which is not so far from Beaune, where your accommodation is. Beaune is one of France’s wine capitals. Architecturaly interesting is the Hospices de Beaune, a former nursing home.

14.05.2017 – Medieval feeling

The way back to Dijon there are many little villages along the way: Pommard, Meursault Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny, Gavrey-Chambetin. You can chose in which village you would like to taste good red wines. Arriving to Dijon: the capital of Bugundy. The city is gorgeous and royal. For architects the student dormitory by Herzog and de Meuron could be also interesting. In the afternoon give back the car in Dijon and travel back to Zurich over Basel.
