It was 4-day trip and traveled alone in the spring of 2022. It is worth to travel to South-France in spring, because in this time there are not so many tourists, but the weather is quite good: the mornings are cool, but in the day it can be over 20°C. I traveled by train and I rented a car in Montpellier for 2 days. The accommodations were in Montpellier (2 night) and in Béziers (1 night). On this trip I have seen the capital of the region: Montpellier and some other small towns and the sea.
25.03.2022 – Montpellier
The trip starts at Zurich Main Station early in the morning. Go to Montpellier with two changes in Basel [CH] and Mulhouse [F]. You arrives to Montpellier after noon, so you can start with a lunch in one of the many restaurants in the city. Take a walk in the old town: Place de la Comedie, Opera House, Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle, Rue Foch, Aqueduc Saint-Clément. From the Promenade du Peyrou you can look around and see the South French landscape. I can recommend also to take a walk in Jardin des plantes (Botanical Garden), it was be one of my favorite places in the city.

26.03.2022 – Sète, Agde, Béziers
Rent a car in the morning and drive to the South-West. Sète is a small town by the sea with a big industrial port. The locals deal with fishing and there is a small but colorful market hall in the town. I recommend you to climb up to the Point de vue du Mont Saint Clair. From this place you can see the whole town, the sea and the landscape. Go further to Agde along the Ètang de Thau (you can stop sometimes and enjoy the spring sun on the almost empty sea coast). Agde is very special, because the stone facades of the town are dark grey, so for the first view the town has not a friendly look, but the details are nice. If you follow the river Hérault you reach the sea: Plage du Grau d’Agde is place, which is very popular for the locals in a sunny weather. You can enjoy the sun on the sea coast. Béziers is a bigger, historical town with many great buildings. The town center was unter construction, but I can imagine, that after the revitalization it will be a cool town.

27.03.2022 – Pezenas, Marseillan, Mèze, Montpellier
Pezenas in a town with beautiful stone buildings and many art and crafts shops. Marseillan and Mèze are fishing villages on the Ètange de Thau. In Bouzigues you can eat a special sea food, because the village is famous from its auster. Drive back to Montpellier and take a look at the Mèdiateque Building of Zaha Hadid.

28.03.2022 – Montpellier
On the last day you can visit the new quarter of Montpellier. Antigone is a good example of the post-modern city planning by Ricardo Bofill. The buildings are also eyecathing. Much more other than the building around, but it is also worth to see the apartment building by Sou Fujimoto with the big balconies on the facade. You can walk along the river Lez, because there are also so interesting new parts of the city. For example the Park Georges Charpak has a nice nature friendly concept. After 1 pm goes the train back to Zurich.
