Provence 2018

It was 4-day trip with 4 people in the spring of 2018. It is worth to travel to Provence in spring, because in this time there are not so many tourists, but the weather is already good: the mornings are cool, but in the day it can be over 20°C. We traveled by train and we rented a car there. The accommodation was in Avignon (3 nights). On this trip we have seen a lot of cozy villages, amazing towns and interesting landscape [Camargue]: so the best of Provence.

16.03.2018 – Avignon

The trip starts at Zurich Main Station early in the morning. Go to Avignon TGV-station with one change in Basel [CH]. Rent a car there and drive to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the famous wine region. Go further to Orange to see the old roman theather. [Tip: if you have time go also to Vaison-la-Romaine.] In the evening you can reach Avignon [photo].

17.03.2018 – The Rhone estuary

Drive to South, to the Rhone estuary: Sainte-Marie-de-la-Mer is the centre of the Camargue National Parc. You can see some wild, white horses, flamingos and bulls and of course the Mediterranean sea. Go further to the beautiful mediaval town of Aigues-Mortes [photo], which is surrounded by massive walls. In the city of Nimes you can a roman theater and a temple and not so far from Nimes you can visite the famous roman aquaduct: the Pont-du-Gard.

18.03.2018 – Villages of the Luberon Mountain

In the morning visit the amazing mediaval building, the Popes’ Palace in Avignon. Than go further to the Vaucluse region, where you can visit the eyecatching villages of Venasque, Gordes [photo], Rousillon and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Not so far from Gordes you find the famous Sénanque monastery with the lavender fields aroud it.

19.03.2018 – Arles

Leave Avignon and drive to South. Les-Baux-de-Provence is a typical local village and it is not so far from the next destination: Arles, where you can find some roman ruins [photo] and a cozy old town. Early on the afternoon drive to Avignon TGV-station and give back the rental car, take on the train and go back to Zurich.
