It was 3-day trip in the autumn of 2023. It is worth to travel to the Rhone-Alps Region of France in the late autumn, because despite the cold weather you can see beautiful colours of autumn forests. I traveled by train to Geneva and I rented a car there. The accommodation was in Grenoble [2 nights].

The trip starts at Oerlikon Railway Station in Zürich. Go to Geneva and rent a car a there. You can drive also on the motorway in France, but I recommend you to go on normal roads, because you can see more. The first step ist the little town of Chambéry, which is famous of its main square and the art nouveau architecture (inkl. the Elephant Fountain). The town has an bit italian flair, because of its history. (Tip: on this trip I was not in Annecy, but if this town is also worth to visit – but in every season it is very touristic.) Go further to Grenoble – you arrive probably in the evening and it will be already dark, so you can have a dinner in one of the good restaurant of the city.

In the morning you can drive in the mountains a bit. The Monteynard-Avignonet dam (photo above) is very spectacular and on the way to it you can see the beautful Alps around Grenoble. Go back to Grenoble and walk up to the famous Fort de la Bastille and you can see from here the whole city and the Alps around it (photo below). After this sporty program I had lunch in a nice place (tip: Bouillon archers). Just walk in the old town of the city: you will see a tipical French atmosphere.

On the last day you can make some stops on the way to the Geneva. A road trip to the Parc naturel régional de Chartreuse really worth it: Gorges du Guiers Mort and the Monastery of the Grande Chartreuse (photo) are nice places to visit. Go further to the Lake Bourget and make some stops near the lake: Aix-le-Bains is not interesting town, but the lake promenade is worth to visit. Go back to Geneva and your trip ends here.
